One of the nice things about where I work is the variety of project I get to be involved in. Sometimes just answering the phones, sometimes doing a training video with a Shaolin munk. (The typical day has a lot more of the former though.)
Recently, we had a one-day “Shaolin Camp” with well over 100 kids. Before the event I did a Shaolin training/exercise DVD, and helped with a t-shirt layout. The day of the event I did a greenscreen photo shoot (and on-site print) of the attendees. Other than a few bugs (it’s been a while since I’ve used greenscreen…) it went pretty well. The munk has a great sense of humor – he noticed some sketches at the office, and asked for a caricature.

I took the photo at a “regular” class. You can kind of tell the lights are set for kids, since his face is a bit in shadow.

I have been working with a company that has wanted caricatures of clients. – Usually I do caricatures of employees, (like for an employee of the month), but this is nice for a change! (And more frequent.)
They all have the same bodies, I just draw a new head from a photo, and attach it in Photoshop. (If only being a surgeon was so easy…)

Commissioned work for a 1 year anniversary. She is a teacher, he is a DJ.
This was a tricky caricature since they took the “kitchen sink” approach. Here is an excerpt from the email:
“The way I see it in my head is the mountain as the back drop and the st.louis arch going across the paper like a rainbow. We are both jumping in to a car with are swimsuits on and I have the headphones around my neck and you can have her kind of tossing the book aside. Make it look like we are driving to a camping site, And the car could have stickers on the cars with all the places we went to on our honeymoon and St.louis and Chicago and a Thanksgiving Vegas.”
Then they added a tidal wave, Dr Seus, etc. etc.
All in all, I think it turned out ok!
